About me

Handcrafted miniatures by Corinne Curtis (B.Des)

Westray, Orkney, United Kingdom

I first started making 1/12th scale dolls house miniatures in 1987 when I joined the Auckland Miniature Workshop in New Zealand. While I lived in New Zealand I was an active member of the New Zealand Association for Miniature Enthusiasts (NZAME) and have attended several of their biannual conventions. I’m still a member, and will be going back to the 2006 convention as well.  New Zealand miniaturists are a great lot of DIY’ers and will build anything and everything from scratch, so it was an excellent training ground for me.

In 1997 I began training as a jeweller and silversmith (completing a Bachelor of Design degree in 2000).  These skills have increased the range of miniature work I do.  I have also had about 15 years of designing and making original one of a kind dolls (from polymer clays primarily) and teddies. I returned to the UK to live in early 2001 and have slowly migrated my way north. I now live in a lovely old farm cottage on one of the northern isles of Orkney, with spectacular views over the sea to other Orkney islands.

I enjoy being able to work on a range of creative projects, and so the miniatures I offer for sale will often be made in quite different techniques.  Until recently, I worked mostly in 1:12 scale, but now make items in the smaller scales of 1:24 (half inch to a foot) and 1:48 (quarter inch to the foot), and have recently ventured into the absolutely tiny micromini scale of 1:144 (the scale of dollshouses for your dollshouse).
